History
The Excel name goes back to 1936, when beef processor Excel Packing Company formed in Chicago. The company moved to Wichita in 1941, and in 1970, changed its name to Kansas Beef Industries.
In 1974, Kansas Beef Industries and Missouri Beef Packers, which was formed in 1964, merged to form MBPXL Corporation. Cargill, Incorporated, acquired MBPXL Corporation in 1979 and in 1982 renamed MBPXL as Excel Corporation.
In 2000, Excel Corporation was renamed Cargill Meat Solutions. The Excel name was introduced again in 2006 as Cargill’s brand of everyday beef and pork with a redesigned logo that celebrates the history and future of the brand. In 2007, Cargill established the Cargill Animal Protein platform, combining the Cargill Meat Solutions business units with the other protein businesses across the globe.
Products
Excel Fresh Meats offerings feature a range of beef – including ground beef and muscle cuts – and pork products. The Excel brand represents 80 percent of Cargill's beef and pork offerings.
Excel Fresh Meats provides a variety of options, including unbranded products ready for packaging as well as private label brands created just for grocery retailers.
In addition to the unbranded and private label options provided by Excel Fresh Meats, Cargill can also provide access to some of the industry’s most recognized national brands. So if a branded product with high consumer awareness better fits your needs, that option is available.
