Animal Handling
We take pride in knowing that we adhere to the standards set by Dr. Temple Grandin, the American Meat Institute Foundation and Humane Slaughter Act for humane animal treatment. Our animal handling practices keep stress at a minimum, which ultimately provides you with the tender and delicious pork products your customers demand. These products allow you to build confidence and enhance your reputation.
Producer Relationships
When it comes to the quality of our pork supply chain, we leave nothing to chance. We work closely with our producers to ensure that quality standards are met consistently. The majority of our hogs are supplied to us by independent Midwestern producers on a committed basis so we can work directly with them to procure a known, consistent supply. These committed suppliers meet our high standards for acceptable genetics, nutrition and production facilities all of which add up to a butcher-quality hog. Our hogs are graded for leanness and weight as well as predetermined meat-quality attributes. In addition to this, detailed supplier histories are kept for weight, leanness and value of the animals provided. Nothing is left to chance.
Strict Standards
Cargill voluntarily implemented an HACCP plan for our pork products years before taking such steps was federally mandated, but our leadership in the industry has not stopped there.
